Read the Institute’s expert response on China’s first quantified CCUS objective set out in its 15th Five-Year Plan for the Oil and Gas Sector. China’s new target of 10 million tonnes of annual CO2 injection from CCS and CCUS projects by 2030 provides a credible benchmark for the next phase of deployment in the country’s oil and gas sector. 

The Institute describes the target as a constructive policy signal, while noting that its wider significance will depend on how these ambitions are supported by policy, infrastructure and commercial frameworks.

Explore our newly published facility profile on the Moomba CCS Project, a large-scale CCS project in South Australia’s Cooper Basin. 

Operated by Santos in partnership with Beach Energy, the project captures CO2 associated with natural gas processing. Initially developed to store CO2 from joint venture operations, Moomba has the potential to expand into a regional CO2 storage hub serving third-party emitters. The facility profile explores the project's business case, policy and regulatory context, commercial and financial metrics, and strategic significance.

Join the Institute’s upcoming monthly Member Webinar for a closer look at the CO2 Storage Kalundborg project. The webinar will explore the onshore CCS project in Denmark and its work to assess the Havnsø reservoir for safe, long-term geological CO2 storage. 

CO2 Storage Kalundborg has been awarded an onshore CO2 storage exploration licence in Denmark. The project has now reached an important milestone, with the seismic survey completed in 2025 and an exploration well successfully completed in July 2026. This online session will cover the planned CO2 terminal in Kalundborg and connecting pipeline. With the project targeting a start-up date for around 2032, join us to hear about the project’s progress and what it could mean for the future of CCS in Denmark.

The Global CCS Institute will host a capacity building workshop in Warsaw, Poland, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss the current status of CCS in the country.

Developed in collaboration with the CCUS Poland Association, the workshop will explore successful business cases from regions where CCS projects are already underway, while also exploring funding mechanisms and the key challenges facing local emitters. Held on the 30th of September, the workshop is designed to support the advancement of Poland's CCS roadmap by encouraging knowledge sharing, practical discussion and collaboration between organisations involved in the development and deployment of CCS.
