Held on 8 April at the Embassy of Canada in Washington D.C., the 2025 Americas Forum on Carbon Capture and Storage gathered leaders from government, industry, academia, and civil society for a focused day of dialogue on advancing CCS deployment across the region. Organised in collaboration with the Embassy of Canada – a recognised global leader in CCS – this year’s Forum featured expert panels and presentations on business models and financing, technology innovation, and regional policy progress.

With tens of millions USD in grant funding pool, Tencent’s CarbonX Program 2.0 is currently accepting proposals worldwide to advance Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage, Carbon Dioxide Removal, and Long-Duration Energy Storage technologies.
Hear Dr. Xinwo Huang and Dr. Liuchuan Tong from the CarbonX Program cover proposal requirements, selection criteria, and implementation expectations.
CarbonX Program aims to foster pioneering pilot projects, incubate high-potential startups, and support global capacity-building initiatives. Selected projects can receive several million USD in grant funding per project, as well as expert mentorship, scenario-based resources, industry partnerships, and investor connections. Insight | International seminar in Sao Paulo highlights role and opportunities for CCS and BECCS technologies in Brazil | |
The Brazilian state government agency CETESB in São Paulo hosted an international seminar on 26 March on the challenges of decarbonisation and the role of environmental licensing in CCS and BECCS technologies.
The Global CCS Institute’s General Manager for Business Development and Engagement, Poh Boon Ung, was invited to speak at the event on the critical role of CCS, how and why CCS is necessary, and the many applications and projects being applied today to help mitigate climate change.

Insight | Capacity building workshop in Romania highlights opportunities and challenges for CCS deployment | |
The Global CCS Institute and Dutch public company EBN co-organised a CCS Capacity Building Workshop in Romania on 25-26 February with the support of the Institute’s member OMV Petrom.
This invitation-only event aimed to enhance understanding Romania's CCS landscape and foster knowledge-sharing on lessons learned and best practices from CCS leaders in Europe. The workshop followed a similar capacity-building initiative organised by the Institute, alongside EBN, in September 2024 in Athens, which delved into the topic of CCS permitting processes in Greece.

Feedback | Consultation on the new Draft State Aid Framework to support the CISAF | |
The European Commission, in its Clean Industrial Deal Communication, has outlined plans to simplify State aid rules by introducing the Clean Industrial Deal State Aid Framework (CISAF). This framework aims to speed up the deployment of renewable energy, advance industrial decarbonisation, and strengthen clean tech manufacturing capacity across Europe.
Through a consultation, the Commission sought the views of relevant stakeholders for the draft development of this framework. The Global CCS Institute took part in the consultation process and provided feedback, which can be accessed below.

News | New funding made available to CCS initiatives through the 2025 CEF-E call for PCIs and PMIs | |
The Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) on 3 April announced the launch of a €600 million call for proposals to support key cross-border EU energy infrastructure projects included in the first list of projects of common interest (PCIs) and projects of mutual interest (PMIs).
Among the projects eligible for funding under the Connecting Europe Facility for Energy (CEF-E) programme are initiatives in the field of CO2 networks and hydrogen. READ MORE | | | |
